Over 1 million Pakistanis perform pilgrimage each year and this number is expected to increase to 5 million by the end of 2020. And so will the cases of pilgrims falling victim to fraudulent activities.
Being a victim of Umrah fraud himself, Khurram decided to start a state of the art service BookMyUmrah, a digital marketplace with verified travel agencies to find, review, compare and book packages online. Through virtual reality, it also trains pilgrims allowing them familiarize themselves with Makkah prior to the trip to avoid dangerous incidents.
The start up has signed contracts with 100 top travel agencies and assists approximately 750,000 pilgrims each year. In the first 8 months of operations BookMyUmrah has generated PKR 30 million of worth of bookings.
